Our Next Celtic Invasion Vacation takes place
May 24-31, 2014

Enjoy an audio tour of our trip:

May 24. Saturday morning, we will fly into Manchester. We will gather with other invaders in the airport before heading to the car rental. Our van will drive out from Manchester. Our drive will take us past Liverpool and along the North Sea down to Conwy Castle. This castle was build by Edward I during his conquest of Wales. UNESCO considers Conwy to be one of "the finest examples of late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe", and it is classed as a World Heritage site. We will stop for a light lunch in Conwy before exploring the ancient castle.

After lunch, we will hit the road and drive to our cottage. Marc will drop some folks off at the cottage to unwind while he goes for breakfast and dinner supplies. When he returns, we'll go to Dylan's Resturant in Menai Bridge (http://www.dylansrestaurant.co.uk/). After dinner, Marc will pull out the autoharp to play a few songs that evening.

May 25. Sunday morning, we will awake to full breakfast by Marc Gunn. We'll leave the cottage about 9:30am to meet up with Gwilym Morus (http://welshmythology.com/awena), a travel guide and a Welsh bard. He will introduce us to Wales, Welsh folklore and the bardic tradition as explore a bit of the Snowdown mountain countryside. That night, I will cook my world famous pasta dish as Gwilym performs Welsh music for us in our cottage.

May 26. Monday morning, we'll have a Continental breakfast before hitting the road for a big trip to Caernarfon Castle. Caernarfon is considered one of the world's greatest Medieval castles. This castle is where Edward I named his second son Prince of Wales in 1301. It is also where Queen Elizabeth II named Prince Charles, Prince of Wales. We will spend the day in Caernarfon with some free time as we explore the city and do some Welsh shopping. We'll have dinner on the way back to the cottage. Plus, we shall stop in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, the town with the longest name in the world. If time permits Marc may play you a wee bit more music.

May 27. Tuesday morning we will get up extra early to drive to Llanberis where we will catch the Snowdown Mountain Railway. The train will climb the steap Snowdown Mountain. The views from the train as you are carried along a ridge to the Summit are truly breathtaking. You will have one of the world’s most spectacular panoramas at your feet. On very clear days at the Summit you can see as far as the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland and the Isle of Man. At the top, we will visit the Summit Visitor Centre where we will get light snacks for lunch. Then we will hike around the mountain before catching the train back to Llanberis and eating at Peak Restaurant with a hearty, Welsh-style dinner. Tired and happy you will be treated to a full concert by Marc Gunn.

May 28. On Wednesday, we will stay a bit more "local" and explore the Isle of Anglesey (http://www.loveanglesey.co.uk/). This is the largest island in England and Wales with miles of inspiring coastline and hidden beaches. We will drive along the coastline seeing the sites including Holyhead. If were lucky, we might catch a community arts event or folk-music jam in the Ucheldre Kitchen (http://ucheldre.org/). Otherwise, we will continue on to Moelfre, one of the prettiest harbor villages on the east coast. There we will grab a light lunch at Ann's Pantry (http://www.annspantry.co.uk/). We will return to the cottage early for a wee bit of rest. Marc will make dinner, followed by a concert by two of my favorite musicians, Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer.

May 29. Thursday we shall play by ear. If there's something awesome we might like to see more of like Snowdonia National Park or the Isle of Anglesey or something else, we will consider it. Or we could take a trip down to Harlech or the Llyn Peninsula. We're gonna play it by ear. My hope is that we will get back at a decent time to have dinner at The White Eagle (http://www.white-eagle.co.uk/) followed by one final night of Marc Gunn music.

May 30. Friday we will drive through the Snowdonia National Park to the stone village of Betws-y-Coed. This beautiful little town will be a nice place to stretch our legs, soak in the bridges and riverside walks before driving to a hotel TBA. Right now, I'm looking at Chester.

May 31. Our trip comes to a close. We will have breakfast at the hotel before driving to the airport to fly out of Manchester.
